  26. There is probably a more technical answer, but since I am not a techie, 
  27. but an editor, here goes.  One of the most apparent elements in 
  28. degradation (the loss of detail due to multiple generations) is chroma 
  29. crawl.  That is the "bleeding" of colors between color contrasted 
  30. elements in your scene, most notibly red.  When you introduce illegal 
  31. NTSC colors, you dramaticaly increase your chroma crawl.
